Trossachs UK CUP Weekend and WORLD RANKING EVENT Sunday 7th April 2002
This was held in some of the finest weather of late. KFO performed well, with 2 firsts in their respective age groups. The results are gathered electronically using the Sport Ident System, pioneered for Orienteering: at each control there is a small computer which records each runner's time, (the runner inserts a small, plastic encased microchip carried on the index finger). This allows "split times" to be calculated by computer and therefore available within a few seconds of the runner finishing his course. For example, the results for the first runner on M55 were:
leg1:4.52 (5) leg2: 2.16 (4) leg3: 1.45 (4) … leg16: 1.17 (1) run-in: 0.59 (1)
4.52 (5) 7.08 (4) 8.53 (2) 66.17 (1) 67.16 (1)
The first row shows the split times (min and sec) for legs 1, 2, 3, 16 and the time for the run-in to the finish line from the last control (4 to 15 omitted to save space), and the position of the runner in the class for each leg. The second row is the accumulated time and position. These split times allow interesting comparison of yourself with the performance of other runners.
