30th July at Roseisle. Roseisle is an area of trees and sand dunes on the coast between Findhorn and Burghead and approx 6 miles (10 km) from the Event Centre in Forres. The area will have been used on Day 2, Monday 28th July, for one of the orienteering events of Moray 2003. Information will be available

Comments from Planner, Organiser and Controller

Controller's Comments

Devilla…a bit of a wolf in sheep’s clothing? An area that a first glance is pretty open, has a good path network, and is fairly flat. Perfect for lulling people into a false sense of security. As many on the longer courses found however, the terrain to the east and north is actually quite technical, the brambles and bracken make it quite physical, and Peter’s courses didn’t leave many options for track running. The results for these courses were very satisfactory… reasonable winning times and very few dnf’s.

The physical aspects seem to have affected those on the Light Green and Orange courses more, although again most managed to complete the courses.

The short courses had the usual mix of fast, competent juniors through to first-timers and the very-young, giving a god spread to the results, and again most finished satisfactorily.

Overall I think that Peter made good use of the area, giving a good technical challenge where required, and a wide range of control features.

I am not aware of any complaints regarding the sites, other than the description of a depression that was shown on the map as a re-entrant. We had discussed this, but decided that anyone visiting the site would agree that it was in fact a depression. I have since been informed that the description must match the map rather than the reality, so my apologies to all affected.

My thanks to Peter, and also to Dave and the rest of the team for a well-organised, well-attended event.

Gregor MacFarlane

Organiser's Comments

Thank you all for coming. I promised you good weather and it indeed turned out nice. Apologies to those confused by the parking arrangements, in the early stages. The intention was that you parked on the forest road in front of the person in front of you, but I think we forgot to tell the first arrival this. Because of illness and other indispositions, we had to run the event with only 11 helpers which must be the bare minimum for a coloured coded event, so we were a bit pushed at times.

A big thanks to all the helpers; and to Pete Adams for his courses which I think you all enjoyed; and to Gregor MacFarlane for his fine controlling.
